Al-Basar

“Al-Basar”

The activities of Al-Basar International Foundation began in 1989. It is a non-governmental, non-profit organization registered in multiple countries across Asia and Africa, working to combat blindness through a comprehensive and integrated program based on four pillars:

Medical Camps: Conducting specialized mobile eye treatment and surgery campaigns in remote areas.

Specialized Hospitals: Establishing permanent, fully equipped eye hospitals with the latest medical technology.

Human Resource Development: Founding technical institutes and colleges to train the workforce in ophthalmology.

School Health Program: Organizing mobile diagnostic and treatment campaigns for primary school students (ages 6–12).

The foundation started modestly in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and expanded under the guidance of its Board of Directors, which consists of six members, along with the Secretary-General and Medical Director. The board is responsible for setting overall strategies, approving annual plans, and overseeing all operational sectors.

After institutionalizing its work, Al-Basar was registered with:

The UK Charity Commission (London) under No. 1160758

Dubai Humanitarian City under No. 150014

Over three decades, Al-Basar—by the grace of God—has achieved remarkable successes across all fields, including:

Establishing 29 specialized eye hospitals

Conducting 80–90 medical campaigns annually

Enhancing the skills of local ophthalmology professionals

Diagnosing and treating schoolchildren

Forming partnerships with organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and other local and international blindness prevention entities.
