The campaigns offered free eye examinations, advanced treatments, and distributed prescription glasses, helping many regain their sight and return to normal life.
The Foundation conducted the first campaign in Malindi, Kenya, and the second in Marsabit, Kenya, from September 11 to 26, 2023.
The medical team focused on providing comprehensive free services in outpatient clinics, where 5,000 patients received free eye examinations and necessary medical treatments. The medical interventions included 417 eye surgeries, such as cataract removal and other procedures aimed at restoring or preserving sight.
The campaign also addressed complementary aspects of eye care by distributing 1,217 free prescription glasses to patients diagnosed with vision problems, helping them improve their eyesight and carry out daily, professional, and academic activities with ease.
The Director of Al-Basar International Foundation’s campaigns described this initiative as “a ray of light in the fight against preventable blindness.” He added, “Reaching more than 5,000 people in communities that need support marks a major step toward our mission. Every eye surgery performed and every pair of glasses distributed represents a life transformed for the better. We thank the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, our local partners, and volunteers whose efforts made this achievement possible.”
Through these campaigns, Al-Basar International Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its free services across the most underserved regions in Africa and Asia, pursuing its mission to combat preventable and treatable causes of blindness.
